As we get going here in 2010, I am interested in broadening the horizons of our Squad.  Mainly I think it may be time to consider a new home with the turmoil that continues with the JGE development.

While we all still hope for an awesome release, prudence dictates that we consider other alternatives where we can plant our New Dawn flag.

If any members or "extended family" have experience with STO, please register with our forums and join in the discussion there.

New Dawn Site Migration PDF Print E-mail

After a few months of tinkering and neglect, the home of New Dawn has a new look and set of features.

The new look has been long overdue and with luck, will serve our squad well as we go forward into the future.  Presently we are customized for the eventual release of Jumpgate Evolution™ MMO by the folks at Netdevil, along with their partners at Gazillion.

With numerous recent changes in personnel and timetables, there has been a growing concern in the command staff about the JGE project, but there is still a patient "wait and see" attitude prevailing for now.

All current and former members are encouraged to register and check in on the forums!

I hope you all enjoy the new site!

Work Progresses on New Site PDF Print E-mail

As time has allowed, additional features and back-end configurations have been added to the site to ensure much of the previous functionality of the website is not lost with the transition to the new format.

The technical issues with the forums have been resolved and they will soon be duplicated here.

As part of our squads history of being an information source, I have added in a file management utility that will allow for better controlled access to things like ingame tools, custom HUDs, and "Intelligence Briefs".  I'm studying a way to import all the existing users from the php-nuke site into the joomla site.  I'm hoping you will all not need to re-register with the site in order to use it.

More to come.

Migration Update PDF Print E-mail

Testing has been completed on the imporation of existing users from the old (PHP-Nuke) site with excellent results.  All users WILL have to be issued a new temporary password that they can log in and change right away.

Of the 699 registered users of the old site, only 209 had email addresses associated with them.  Those 490 users most likely were the victim of one of several hackings that the New Dawn website suffered many years ago.  In order for a user account to be migrated, the account MUST have had the following: User Name (real name), Login Name (normally the callsign), and email address.  I did my best to ensure previous members were included in the migration by consulting old mailing lists etc.  My plan is to continue the testing and build out here on the dev site, and then move everything to the "live" configuration.

I also have "tweaked" the transparency settings in some of the graphics to provide better contrast for the text of articles against the imagry here.  I think the present settings are very good, but please let me know if you think they need further refinement.

There will be a lot of work to build out our databases and knowlegebase.  If you are good with Joomla and would like to help, please PM me and let me know.

New Dawn's Joint Special Operations Command is undergoing an upgrade.  As part of that upgrade, the R&D team is working with Command Staff to configure the new site and identify any problems before deployment.

At present, template issues conflicting with the forums component are the major item.

New Dawn Command continues to monitor the development.
